Chiropractic Frequent Q & A
Q: Is Chiropractic Care Safe?
A: Yes. Chiropractic Care is a very safe and effective treatment of musculoskeletal and neuro-musculoskeletal pain as well as an excellent modality used by many to improve overall health and well-being. Kinetic Wellness Chiropractic practices only the most contemporary and researched Chiropractic Techniques that are comfortable, accurate, safe as well as incredibly effective. Dr. Melinda will spend time assessing your spine and overall health on the Initial Comprehensive Exam.
Q: Does Chiropractic Care “hurt”?
A: Chiropractic Adjustments typically do not hurt and are often very comfortable. Most people who expressed fear of Chiropractic Care on their first visit usually say “Is that it?!” as a response to their first Adjustment. It is normal to feel some mild soreness or tissue irritation afterward as a result to tissue alteration. Doctors of Chiropractic are trained and employ a variety of techniques that will be customized to you and your spinal health goals.
Q: Are Chiropractors “REAL” Doctors?
A: Chiropractors, or Doctor’s of Chiropractic (D.C.’s) are *NOT* Medical Doctors (M.D.’s). Just like dentists, podiatrists, orthodontists, psychologists who all hold the title of “DOCTOR”, Chiropractors hold the same decree. A Chiropractor is a Primary Care Provider in the State of Missouri. In order to become a Doctor of Chiropractic, one must successfully pass five National Board Exams and a State Exam in the state that they are licensed to practice. This is only after 3.5-4 years of Doctorate Academic Training at an Accredited Chiropractic College, which includes a 1.5 year internship and in some cases more didactic training than general medical school.
Q: How long will it take for me to start noticing a difference in how I feel?
A: Each person will respond differently to Chiropractic Care. Most report a noticeable change to their symptoms after one visit. Some require multiple visits. Our model of results driven care will accurately track your progress based on how you feel. This is called subjective reporting. We will only continue to treat you on your Chiropractic Care Plan if you are responding to our work, or feeling better. If for some reason you do not respond to our work in a reasonable period of time, your Chiropractor will discuss with you your options that may include additional diagnostic examination, or a referral to another health care specialty.
Q: Are they going to “Crack my back every visit”?
A: The Chiropractic Adjustment is what people, mistakenly call, “Cracking Backs”. A Chiropractic Adjustment is a very specific and purposeful force, which is utilized to manipulate spinal joints. Chiropractic Adjustments are only done on spinal joints that are not moving/working properly (Vertebral Subluxation). Subluxation is what causes pain, muscle spasm, nerve irritation and a myriad of other health related problems. Kinetic Wellness Chiropractic focuses its entire practice on locating and correcting Vertebral Subluxation with Chiropractic Adjustments and associated modalities. This is what we call Chiropractic Care. Each visit your spine will be checked for Vertebral Subluxation and your Chiropractor will adjust each area. The audible sound called a cavitation is the hallmark of a successful Chiropractic Adjustment, but not always associated with a Chiropractic Adjustment. Therefore, if your Chiropractor finds that your spinal joints are Subluxated, a Chiropractic Adjustment will be done.
Q: Once I start Chiropractic Care will I be addicted and be dependent on going to the Chiropractor for the rest of my life?
A: This is a very important question. Kinetic Wellness focuses on a model of “results-driven” Chiropractic Care. If you do not feel better, then you do not have to continue to come in. You will not feel “addicted” to Chiropractic Care, nor will you become dependent. It is very likely that you will, however, begin to notice how your quality of life improves under Chiropractic Care. Living life to the fullest, free of pain and feeling amazing is what regular or Wellness Chiropractic Care is about. We employ no gimmicks or scams. As a result, most of our Practice Members continue with their Chiropractic Care as an ongoing measure of preventative wellness, after they are done treating their musculoskeletal pain goals, on a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis.
Q: Why would I go to the Chiropractor if I do not have Back Pain, Neck Pain, Low Back, or Sciatica?
A: Chiropractic Care is about helping people feel better by correcting spinal joint dysfunction called Vertebral Subluxation. Subluxation is linked to a number of different spinal conditions including, but not limited to: Neck Pain, Shoulder Pain, Arm Pain, Wrist Pain, Chest Pain, Mid Back Pain, Low Back Pain, Nerve Pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Hip Pain, Sacroiliac Joint Pain, IT Band Syndromes, Sciatica and the list goes on. The causes of these symptoms are often directly as a result of uncorrected Vertebral Subluxation that has been tormenting the spine for months/years/decades. Most of the time, Vertebral Subluxation is not felt by the individual (asymptomatic) until a trigger or catalyst causes the Subluxation to worsen and the body to finally communicate its symptoms. Correcting Vertebral Subluxation BEFORE it becomes symptomatic is the goal of Wellness Care. Undergoing Chiropractic Care on a regular basis is what keeps the spine and nervous system healthy and working in an optimal level. This means things like joint, muscle and nerve pain will be not arise and you will feel a heightened sense of well being as a result.
